Magical Season

Here we are... it's October. The Season of Magical Entertainment is filled with
exciting presentations of mystery, flourish, humor, and the impossible.

Looking for magic... recently, the space shuttle Atlantis made a giant delivery to the
International Space Station. They installed a large solar appliance, and returned
safely to earth. It was spectacular.
Just today, I made a giant delivery, too. Folks wouldn't want it to be described here, but most would agree that it was spectacular. And... I feel much better, now.

A few days ago, it came to light that sun fish are being used to detect the presence of
deadly toxins in our water supplies. Here, I'll expose a magical secret... this very
type of observation is exactly what magicians use in one form or another to prepare a
magical performance. I hope I don't get in trouble putting this secret in my blog.

As far as the sun fish are concerned, they really are more sensitive than I previously
thought. My son farted on the bank of Hop Brook Lake the other day... a half dozen sun
fish died and floated to the surface. It was amazing! We felt bad, though. But, on
the bright side, we were able to put out the small grass fire quickly enough so as to
not attract any nearby hasmat team.

Well, there's a little magic to tide you over for the first of october. Let me
recommend that you see The Illusionist as soon as you can. It has a great story, lots
of magic, and it will surprise you with a superb ending.

Season of Magic Tricks

The approach of the fall season is upon us even though storm Ernesto is raining outside. The performance book has been selected and arranged for this year, filled with demonstrations of the impossible, astonishment, flourish, humor, and mystery. All I can say is that the magic surrounds us.

Recently, it has come to my attention that in the Daniel Boone National Forest, Ky. the 20 foot tall slippery elm has fallen victim to thieves who tear off its bark for profit in the herbal remedy market. These trees will certainly die. I can't help wondering ... can I get a magic trick out of this? More importantly, does Davey Crocket get a forest?

The other day, I ordered some very cool magic from my friends over at Trickshop.com where I had the pleasure of exchanging a round of emails with the owner. We settled our business quickly and I was impressed at how personal the attention that I received was. It would be to your advantage to surf over to Trickshop.com and check out their products.

Let me close with my horoscope predictions for the year 2029...

Asteroid Apophus strikes the Earth ... civilization comes to an abrupt end ... more news shortly.

But, before that happens Castro finally dies at age 112; Cuban cigars can now be imported legally, but President Chelsea Clinton has banned all smoking.

And, France pleads for global help after being taken over by Jamaica.

Thanks for stopping by. Have a magical season.

Magic Mysteries

I like to put my thinking into gear to "see" the world in its true,
magical nature. We are regularly surrounded by fascinating
secrets, mysteries, and, yes indeed, even miracles. Read on...

Just received notice of the scheduled airdate for the first in a series of documentaries of interest. "Secrets of the Freemasons"
will air at 9:00 PM (Eastern) on Monday, May 15th on the National
Geographic Channel. It will re-air on Saturday, May 20th, at 10:00
PM.

Dan Brown's DaVinci Code movie is creating quite a coat-tail of
interest in the media to ride.

Gayle Nobles of Wichita, Brion Wilson of Cheney and Diane Briggs of
Augusta all vanished into thin air Thursday night from the middle
of the Century II stage during magician David Copperfield's show. I
don't think anyone should worry though, the air isn't all that thin
in Wichita.

I watched “Keith Barry: Extraordinary” last night on CBS. He
presented himself as the “psychological illusionist” and says that
this highlights his unique brand of entertainment. I thought the
show was ok. There were some strong effects and some not so strong
effects. I'll have to rate the show as a 4 on my "watchability"
scale ( 1-12 ).
Keith Barry is a young Irish magician, still in his 20s, who has
caught on quickly. He had a series in Ireland that reportedly went
to 28 countries.

I had a psychic, lucid dream last night that went something like this...

For a brief, psychic moment last week, Connecticut congresswoman
Nancy Johnson had the idea to write a bill requiring all members of
legislature to pay taxes that they levy on the rest of us. She
mentioned this to some of her colleagues over lunch. There was
complete silence for a long minute. Then they all chuckled.

My buddy Dennis was chatting with me on the phone today and told me
that his wife, Cathy ( a statuesque blonde ), was watching a show
on their high definition TV, and listening through the
state-of-the-art, wireless headphones when she turned to him and
said, "Hey, I can clearly hear everything you're saying!"

I was feuling up my car today, and became quite concerned about the
high gas prices recently...went inside to pay, and was directed to
their loan department.

There is always something magical in the news...

Probe into gas mystery
The Scotsman - May 08 3:34 AM
ENGINEERS are today investigating a mysterious gas smell that has
been reported in the Capital and across Scotland.

**We get this phenomenon here, too. The gas smells are usually
noticable just after lunch. Our engineers are investigating, also.

SALT LAKE CITY - A disease that can deform trout continues to
spread swiftly through Utah's waterways. The trout malady has cost millions of dollars at three state hatcheries that tested positive and had to be shut down for lengthy
decontamination periods. The disease causes the trout to chase
their own tail and eventually leads to their starvation.

** Politicians have been doing this for years. One correspondent suggested that we could put in some detergent, and clothing to make a "natural" washing machine. Now there's a
neat idea.

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - A wheelchair-bound Los Angeles woman, who
has repeatedly filed lawsuits over access for the disabled, got up
and ran after police arrested her for fraud.

** This is not only magic, it's a miracle!!

Thanks for reading. Here's wishing everyone a great, and magical
day. Return often, tell your friends, subscribe, and click an ad link or two
to continue your journey through the world of magical experience.

In the Magic World

Life often serves up a good mystery every once in a while. Strange things happen that defy explanation. Incidents and events that make us wonder how much we really know about the world.
A few days ago, a shaman from Ecuador was seen to be on a tour of all 12 World Cup venues to banish evil spirits before the start of the tournament on June 9.
I wonder if this shaman could banish the evil spirits that are causing spike in gas prices.
"Excuse me, sir, how much would you charge to set the gas prices back to 1990 prices?" "250,000 Sucres, a real bargain for sure."
"What? That's highway robbery. Worse the gas prices themselves. Worse, even, than the robbery of the US citizens by US senators who get paid enormous money, benefits, and priviledge only to do nothing while in office. Some don't even vote on issues. But, I digress."
"My friend. 250,000 sucres is about 10 US dollars, give or take."
"Oh, ok then, can you take the job?"
"No, but thank you for your interest."
Speaking of "cups", China recently has reported that their women have been buying more and more size d, and e-cup bras. Things are perking up for the Chinese... Chinese laundry, Chinese food, and now Chinese d-cup bras.
-
This past monday night, a psychic Joe Power aired a seance on tv and claimed to get in contact with the late John Lennon who gave a message of "peace" to the world. The seance was aired on pay per view. I don't know how large the viewing audience was, but the income from a similarly broadcast seance earlier netted about 8 million dollars.
New seances could be conducted to contact such luminaries as Elvis, Harry Blackstone Jr., or Rodney Dangerfield. This is an idea whose time has arrived.
-
A couple of days ago, David Copperfield was robbed following one of his shows in Palm Beach. He didn't have enough magic at the time to ward off the danger.
-
Finally, in case anyone isn't aware of this by now, magician David Blaine will be on tv again on May 8th. His latest stunt will be to be locked in an aquarium of water for a week, to be released on the night of the broadcast during the live broadcast. He will be in New York City.
His choices included ridding New York of rats, but that would be taking an oft' recurring theme away from David Letterman which would be frowned upon. So, Blaine will be living like a fish instead.

Psychic Debris

No self-respecting magician would be caught in conversation without knowing something about the psychic world, and psychic phenomena. Pick a card. What's your card? "3 of spades." I knew that. I saw it in your mind. "What does it mean?" It might be that something small is about to change. "Oh? Like my husband is about to get bigger?" Something like that. "This is exciting!" Could be your dog is going to need more food everyday because he's growing. "Probably means that something in the car is going to change." Yes, I predict that gas prices are going to change..... upward, of course. "How do you do that?" It's a gift.

After mentalist sessions such as this, there is left all sorts of psychic vibes left around the performance site. Stuff such as: strange footsteps, bending flatwear, and old, smelly, cups with festering tea leaves. This stuff can last for days depending how spooked the sitter has become. And, if there were spectators about, things can get real complicated. Complicated enough for the Ghosthunters to be called in to do a half-hour show.

Not to worry. The question of "who ya gonna call?" finally has an answer. It's in Canada at the moment... where everything worthwhile is invented... but soon to appear in your neighborhood, at the same "speed of light" that the cable companies use to bring you their crackerjack services.

Check it out at the link below.

Mind's Eye (part 2)

Often, one of my math students will ask me if the magic that he or she has watched on TV is real. One response is to bring out a presentation that the students can see up close in the classroom. I've found that the question that they ask is whether the magicians on TV are performing "live" in front of sitting audiences, or are they using camera tricks to cheat the TV
viewers.

Naturally, when I perform a piece of magic such as Card Warp for the questioning student, the reaction is very, very strong. So strong, in fact, that the initial question about TV magic appears to be settled in a very final way.

Simply performing a piece or two occasionally for my students, who are between the ages of 15 and 19, has brought about many opportunities for serious math discussion, as well as discussions concerning the scientific method, the axiomatic method of proof in math, and the search for truth by definition. Working magic for this age group has clear advantages in that they are somewhat knowledgeable, having read some beginner tricks, and they are very mobile...I find myself surrounded quite often, and have to select my work carefully, or find ways to manage them for their own enjoyment of the presentation.

I've communicated with other magicians who refuse to perform for teens, but my work as a teacher affords me the opportunity to address these challenges head on, and I've met with a great deal of success. To keep myself well ahead of the game, I have had to keep my eye on the ball with respect to the magical world.

In that regard, I'll keep posting my discoveries, reviews, and suggestions as I keep The Mind's Eye on the astonishments, the people, places, and events of the world of magic.

The Mind's Eye

By way of introduction to the Mindmyst's Magic blog, I'll let you in on a little something about myself, and something of what you can expect as I put up my next posts.

First, let me say that I'm a magician. For a living, I've taught calculus for the past quarter century and then some. But, I've been a magician since I was 8 years old. I also travel about quite a bit, meet interesting people, and get out my bag of tricks every chance I get.

What can you expect in my blog? Lots of magic, Practical magic, Practical psychic experiments, Practical magic experiments, and, of course, my travel log notes, pictures, and my observations about Magic, Psychic Phenomena, and the science/math way these things are observed, and commented upon.

So stop back often, and let me in on your comments and questions as we proceed through the realms of Mindmyst's Magic.
